Description
Striking and instantly recognisable. This certainly applies to the unique rooftop extension added in 2008 on a property along the Zuid Rundersteeg. Not only does the apartment stand out from the outside, but the interior is equally special. The curved roof, the abundance of natural light and the wonderful southwest-facing roof terrace make this a truly distinctive home. It offers peaceful living with hardly any traffic and a sheltered setting, yet within one minute you are on the lively Haarlemmerstraat. The living area measures 59.7 m².
Around the corner you will find a wide variety of shops, cosy cafés, restaurants and cultural hotspots such as museums and theatres. The canals, courtyards and historic streets of the city centre of Leiden are literally just around the corner and make every walk a pleasure.
The location is also very practical. Leiden Centraal Station can be reached within a few minutes by bicycle, and the nearby A4 motorway Netherlands and A44 motorway Netherlands provide fast connections to cities such as The Hague, Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
Sellers’ story
“At the time, we had the opportunity to build this apartment ourselves. Our plan included a curved roof, large windows and a terrace, all of which were approved. Together with one of the very best contractors, we were able to realise this project.
In our view, it has become a wonderful apartment. It meets all our wishes: light, sunny, a southwest-facing terrace and a pleasant view over the small square. Noise disturbance is truly not an issue here.
However, we have decided not to live in Leiden after all, nor to rent it out again. We are now at an age where a single-level home suits us better.
We are confident that this apartment will provide its new resident or residents with a great deal of enjoyment, and we hope to hear about that one day.”
Layout
Ground floor
Entrance to the complex. Communal hallway with space for bicycles. Staircase leading to the first floor.
First floor
Landing with access to the apartment entrance. Small hallway with staircase leading to the second floor.
Second floor
Landing with access to all rooms. There is a built-in cupboard containing the central heating boiler and the meter cupboard. In addition, there is a toilet with wall-mounted closet and washbasin. The landing is wonderfully bright thanks to the large windows on the south side.
At the street side is the living room, a particularly special space due to the high ceiling and the curved roof. The entire front façade consists of window frames with glass, allowing plenty of natural light and offering a beautiful view. The open kitchen is also located in the living room and features an Italian design kitchen with built-in appliances.
The bathroom can be accessed from the hallway and is equipped with a shower, washbasin and a connection for the washing machine. The bedroom is located at the rear and is a bright and spacious room with two built-in wardrobes. From the bedroom you can access the southwest-facing roof terrace. The terrace is large enough for a dining table or seating area and enjoys sunshine for most of the day and into the evening. A large awning is installed on the façade to provide shade for both the bedroom and the terrace.
